Lamborghini 834

Lamborghini has nothing to show at the Detroit auto show … they don’t even have a stand. However, CEO Stephan Winkelmann and head Maurizio Reggiani head of R&D spoke a bit about the Lamborghini 834(previously known as the Aventador.)

The Lamborghini 834 will have all the traditional modern Lamborghini cues such as all wheel drive, the unique scissor doors, and air intakes. Stephan Winkelmann says it will be revolutionary but still recognizable, and the Lamborghini 834 was inspired by the military.

As per Stephan “Stiffness and lightness are the words to remember,” and Lamborghini is working on the power to weight ratio. The entire monocoque is carbon fiber … which is a Lamborghini developed process called the RTM(Resin Transfer Molded.) Lamborghini’s RTM was developed in conjunction with Boeing and University of Washington.

Lamborghini will be using a new 6.5 liter V12 engine which produces 700 horsepower and 509 lb of torque. The new engine will produce 18 percent more power and at the same time it will emit about 20 percent less CO2.

The Lamborghini 834 will utilize a 7 speed single clutch transmission developed by Lamborghini. A single clutch was picked because it is 20 kg lighter than a dual clutch and Reggiani adds, “You have to have the drop in torque so you feel like you’re shifting, to give the emotion.” The new Lamborghini 834 will have five shift modes, Auto, Auto Strada (‘strada’ means comfort), Strada, Sport and Corsa.

Lamborghini 834 will be the first production car to  have a pushrod suspension with horizontal dampers. This setup will keep the wheel aligned perfectly throughout the range of suspension travel. The 834 will be also be outfitted with 400 mm carbon discs up front with 380 mm in the back and it will have an electronic parking brake.
