Gazoo Racing GT86 Concept is already a Proven Performer
In case you weren’t aware of the Toyota renegade racing offshoot – Gazoo Racing is about to make their presence known throughout the world. The owner and former chief engineer at Toyota Motors, Hiromu Naruse, has been associated with the development of the 2000GT, Celica, AE86 and the MR2. Mr. Naruse is the driving force and divine inspiration leading the charge in the development of Gazoo’s road and race cars. The GRMN (Gazoo Racing tuned by Meister Naruse or Nurburgring – take your pick) GT86 concept seen in the picture above is their latest foray into racing modification. The Gazoo Racing GT86 Sports FR Concept is fitted with a turbocharger and a supercharger increasing the horsepower by 50% to 320 hp and 310 lb. ft. of torque. This highly enhanced beauty goes from 0 – 60 in 7.7 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 140 mph. Extensive changes were made to the suspension, exhaust system and brakes in order for the extra horsepower to be controlled.
In addition to the engine and undercarriage modifications, Gazoo also enhances the exterior and interior of the GT86 to fall in line with the added horsepower. Long gone are the “sleepers” of yesterday where you wondered what lurked under the hood of that unsuspecting looking “grocery-getter”. Gazoo Racing wants everyone to recognize the beast within by adding fender flares, rear wing, bigger front and rear bumpers and larger 18” wheels. Inside, the interior is a racer’s dream with a roll cage, racing bucket seats with 4-point racing harness seatbelts, and extra gauges on the center console to monitor boot pressure, water and oil temperature. Not only is this a fun to drive vehicle, it looks great while you’re doing it.
As if this wasn’t enough to satisfy your belief in Gazoo Racing and its ability to modify vehicles into racing cars, the performance powerhouse took 3 vehicles to the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race (May 18 – 20, 2012) placing 1st with their Lexus LFA and the GT86 in their respective classes. The second GT86 placed 3rd in its competition. The European production for the Toyota GT86 began in April 2012.
