At this point we all know what the Scion FR-S and FT 86 platform is all about, it’s built for a fun and purist automotive experience. Plain and simple. Scion has taken every opportunity they can to hammer that point home and show off what the FR-S is capable of on the track. Point taken, the community is sold and the demand for the FR-S has been pretty remarkable.
FT-86 dual drift:
We’ve also seen Ken Gushi testing out the drifting capabilities of the Scion FR-S. As it turns out that was just a small preclude of what’s to come, as Scion has partnered with GReddy to build a race car for competition use in the 2012 Formula Drift Series. The man behind the wheel will be Ken Gushi.
Press Release:
The FR-S will be competing in the 2012 Formula DRIFT series with veteran driver Ken Gushi behind the wheel.
The 600-horsepower FR-S race car is the result of a collaboration between Scion Racing and GReddy, a performance-products company that has been involved with Toyota and racing for over twenty years.
The race car is inspired by the 2013 Scion FR-S, a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car that will go on sale in the spring of 2012. The high-performance coupe is the fifth model to join the Scion family.
