The Legacy of Karl Abarth and the Fiat 500 Abarth

The Fiat 500 Abarth is the edgiest and sportiest model in the 500 series. Well, at least as edgy as a quaint 1.4-liter turbo hatchback can be. While it’s far from the most menacing looking car on the road, it’s yet another testament to the principle that a car doesn’t have to be huge with loads of power on tap to be considered sporty. The 500 Abarth takes a different approach and to understand what it symbolizes you first have to know the history of the man it was named after, Karl Abarth.

Karl Abarth believed in building “small but wicked cars”, the philosophy which led to him becoming one of the most decorated racing professionals and builder of some of the most iconic cars of that time. His interesting story and racing legacy is detailed in the video below.

Scion FR-S has a Close Call with a Deer

The Scion FR-S went through an impromptu break test during a shoot for its first commercial. Ken Gushi was driving the FR-S through the twisty roads of Northern California when a deer leaped onto the road, darting right in front of the car. Thankfully the FR-S passed the sudden break check and no one was harmed. So, we now know that the Scion FR-S can drift and avoid deer. Total package? Check out the near miss in the video below.

Stig Sets New Top Gear USA Lap Record in Hennessey ZR1 Corvette

The Corvette ZR1 will gives its rendition of the Valentine’s Day Massacre when the new season of Top Gear USA premiers on Febuary 14, Valentine’s day. The ZR1, modified by Hennessey Performance, dubbed the ZR750, hit the Top Gear track and laid waste to the competition by setting an unofficial record lap time of 1:21.4.

Video: Markku Alen tests the Ferrari FF at Arjeplog

The Ferrari FF is your all-terrain supercar. Snow, sleet, or ice the FF is able to handle it all without sacrificing the performance and style (at least from the front-end) that Ferrari is known for. To demonstrate its capabilities Ferrari headed to the Arjeplog track located north of Sweden and put Markku Alen, 1978 World Rally Champion behind the wheel. Ferrari’s first four-wheel drive vehicle looks amazingly composed throughout the challenging track and the music that the 12-cylinder engine produces is simply epic. Video: How to Drive a Corvette Z06 on Ice

Want to learn all there is to know about car control? Try lapping a Corvette Z06 in the snow and ice for the ultimate lesson. That’s exactly what Telegraph journalist Chris Knapman set out to do on his visit to Laponie Ice driving school located in Sweden. The Corvette is modified to handle the extreme conditions being fitted with a tougher front bumper to handle the inevitable impacts into snow banks. All of the cars fluids have also been swapped out in favor of ones specially formulated to work in freezing weather, and the tires are also studded for extra grip.

Video: Eight-Year Old Drifting in Okinawa Japan

Found out what your natural-born talent is yet? This kid has and for him it’s drifting. The crazy part is, he’s only eight years old! That’s right, an eight-year old was performing at a drifting exhibition in Okinawa, Japan and thankfully it was caught on video. I’m not talking about big-wheels or bicycle’s here either, he’s strapped into a real car and actually getting sideways for the crowd. It’s a great performance, especially for someone of his age. This would also be one heck of a stunt to pull for show and tell day at school.
